Who can apply to the EEML Hackathon? Is it only for students or participants of the EEML Summer School?
The EEML Hackathon is open to everyone aged 18 or above, regardless of academic background, profession, or country of residence. You do not need to be a student or an attendee of the EEML Summer School to participate.
We welcome students, researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and anyone interested in using AI-assisted software development to solve real-world problems. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary teams that combine expertise from different domains.
Do I need prior experience with AI or machine learning?
No. The hackathon is designed for participants with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of experience. A basic knowledge of programming in Python is recommended, but extensive machine learning expertise is not required. Modern AI code generation tools make it possible for participants from many disciplines to contribute effectively. Curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn are the most important prerequisites.
Can I participate individually, or do I need a team?
During the initial Expression of Interest stage, participants are encouraged to form teams. If you register individually and do not find a team, the organizing committee will assign you to one.
Teams must consist of 4 to 6 participants. To ensure that every team can successfully develop a working solution during the event, each team must include at least one participant with software engineering or programming experience. While mentors will be available to discuss ideas and provide guidance, they will not provide hands-on programming support or resolve software development issues for teams.
We strongly encourage teams to be interdisciplinary, combining participants with complementary backgrounds and expertise. The most successful projects often emerge from close collaboration between domain experts, software engineers, and AI practitioners.
What will I gain from attending the EEML Hackathon?
Participants will have the opportunity to:
gain hands-on experience using state-of-the-art AI code generation tools;
collaborate with participants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds;
solve real-world challenges in an intensive team environment;
learn practical software engineering workflows from experienced engineers and mentors;
expand their professional network within the AI community;
compete for prizes awarded to the best-performing teams.
Can I use my own laptop?
Yes. Participants are expected to bring their own laptop. There are no specific hardware requirements, although a modern laptop capable of software development is recommended. Any additional software requirements will be communicated before the event.
Will there be prizes?
Yes. At the end of the hackathon, all teams will present their projects to a jury. Awards will be presented to the teams with the most innovative, technically strong, and impactful solutions.
Will there be lectures or mentoring?
Yes. In addition to the hackathon itself, participants will attend technical talks delivered by experienced engineers and AI practitioners. Throughout the event, mentors will also be available to provide guidance and technical support.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. All participants who successfully complete the hackathon will receive a certificate of participation.
Do I need a visa to attend the hackathon
Depending on your nationality, you may require a visa to travel to the host country. Participants are responsible for ensuring they meet the relevant visa requirements before traveling.
